Who We Are
The Smith Rock Group is a non-profit organization that came together in 1993 and was officially founded in 1994 by a group of passionate climbers and outdoor enthusiasts who recognized the need to protect and preserve the natural, cultural, and recreational resources of Smith Rock State Park.
The group is made up of volunteers who are committed to supporting the park through a variety of initiatives, including trail maintenance, habitat restoration, educational programs, and community outreach. The group works closely with park staff and other organizations to ensure that the park remains a world-class climbing destination while also promoting sustainable outdoor recreation practices and preserving the park's unique natural beauty.
Some of the specific projects and initiatives that the Smith Rock Group has been involved in over the years include:
Trail maintenance and construction: The group works to maintain and improve the park's extensive network of trails, including the popular Misery Ridge Trail.
Habitat restoration: The group has worked to restore native vegetation and wildlife habitat in areas of the park that have been impacted by human activity.
Community outreach: The group works to engage the local community in supporting the park through volunteer opportunities, fundraising events, and other outreach efforts.
Overall, the Smith Rock Group plays a critical role in supporting the long-term health and vitality of Smith Rock State Park, and its dedicated volunteers are a testament to the power of community-led conservation efforts.
We are a 100% volunteer organization!
